Fall Fun Starts Here: Burt’s Pumpkin Farm Opens This Saturday!

There’s a special kind of magic that happens when fall arrives in the North Georgia Mountains, and that magic begins this Saturday at Burt’s Pumpkin Farm! With great excitement and warm hearts, we are thrilled to announce our Grand Opening at 9 AM this Saturday. The gates of our family farm will swing open, inviting you to step into a world of pumpkins, memories, and the crisp, cool air that makes autumn here so unforgettable.

But before the festivities begin, we want to take a moment to look back at the story of Burt’s Pumpkin Farm, a story that spans over a century and is deeply rooted in love, family, and tradition.

A Journey Through Time

The history of Burt’s Farm begins in the 1800s when the family patriarch, John Crane, journeyed from South Carolina and settled on the land that would eventually become our beloved farm. The property, which included what is now Amicalola Falls State Park, was more than just land—it was the beginning of a legacy. However, the story took a turn when John’s son, Bartley Crane, lost part of the property to the federal government due to unpaid taxes on a whiskey still he operated. Bartley didn’t let this setback stop him. Instead, he opened a country store, which was passed down through generations, eventually landing in the hands of Hunt Crane, and later, his grandson, Johnny Burt.

A New Legacy

In 1972, Johnny and his wife, Kathy, began a new chapter by planting pumpkins at the entrance of Amicalola Falls. The stunning scenery and the invigorating mountain air created the perfect setting for their pumpkin farm. As word spread, people flocked to the farm, eager to experience the beauty of North Georgia in the fall and to take home one of the Burt’s pumpkins.

For twenty years, Johnny, Kathy, and their children—Kasey, Russ, and Cameron—sold pumpkins from a stand in their front yard. What started as a humble beginning quickly grew into something much larger. Their dedication and hard work turned Burt’s Pumpkin Farm into a thriving family business that now spans 50 to 70 acres of pumpkins each year.

In 1991, the Burts took a giant leap by building a barn and several pumpkin sheds on their family land, right beside the falls. This new location became the heart of Burt’s Farm as we know it today. And with it came the hayride—a simple idea that has grown into one of the most cherished attractions on the farm. Imagine riding through fields of pumpkins, hearing the tales of Autumn and Gordy, our unique animated pumpkins, and ending the ride with a breathtaking view of Amicalola Falls. It’s pure autumn magic.

More Than Just Pumpkins

But Burt’s Farm is more than just a place to find the perfect pumpkin. It’s a place where the sweet smell of pumpkin pie, bread, and rolls fills the air—a place where family recipes, handed down through the generations, come to life in every bite of our delicious baked goods. It’s a place where the legacy of the Burt family continues to grow.

For over 50 years, Burt’s Pumpkin Farm has been a part of your family’s fall traditions, and for that, we are truly grateful. As we open our doors this Saturday, we invite you to come and make new memories with us—memories that will last a lifetime.

As Johnny Burt so beautifully puts it, “I want people to visit the farm and say, God lives here.” This sentiment is at the heart of everything we do, and we can’t wait to share this season with you.

So mark your calendars, gather your loved ones, and join us at Burt’s Pumpkin Farm this Saturday. Let’s celebrate the beginning of a new fall season together—one filled with pumpkins, joy, and the kind of memories that will warm your heart for years to come.

See you at the farm!
